Ron Farr

By - 30th May 2017

Ron Farr died in the middle of May after a short spell in hospital. This came as something of a surprise as members of the club had visited him at his care home a few weeks before and he appeared to be physically fine. His funeral was delayed as Mary his wife was in hospital with a heart condition.

On July 10th, a short service was held in the chapel of the funeral directors Stonemans. Many long standing members and former members of the club with their wives attended. [6 of our croquet playing Johns were there].  Most accepted the kind invitation of the family to join them for refreshments at the Pheasant on Dorking Rd afterwards, although Ron would have known it better as The Jolly Farmer. It was good to see Mary up and about after her spell in hospital.

Ron will be remembered as a very active member of the club over many years.  An inveterate organiser, he arranged many croquet afternoons and evenings with Young Farmers, the WI, etc.  Outside the club he was renowned for organising Probus trips. In recent times he found the way around the croquet lawn increasingly difficult to follow and had not played a full game for a couple of years.
