The S (Single lawn) league team of Simon, Doug and Joyce took on Sussex County at home on Wednesday 28 August.
The opposition arrived a little late having been confused by Reigate’s one way system and the inconspicuous entry point to our lawn, but were assisted by an emergency call to Martin (thanks Martin for putting them right), so the games were reduced to three hours each.
All the games were timed out – we cannot say whether that was because of the restriction or just not very good play – but the morning session finished level as we (Simon and Joyce) lost the doubles by 3 points but Doug just ran out the winner by 1 (the picture shows the crucial hoop being run!). Freda treated us to her usual high standard of catering and the other picture shows the company feeling very well fed as a result. In the afternoon Doug and Joyce had a relatively comfortable win by 11, but Simon just scraped home by 1. Tea and cake was then lingered over before our guests left to tackle the one-way system again. The result means that the S league team is unbeaten after three matches – two wins and a draw – with one to play.
