The U league team survived the long journey to Ramsgate on 22 August sufficiently well to win 4 – 3, mainly thanks to John Knight and Doug Dykes who won both their matches (John’s first one being in partnership with Martin). Doug’s morning result was his first whitewash +26, and that against a 3 1/2! Captain Simon failed to score.
We all had trouble coping with the ultra dry and super fast lawns which meant that long take offs and split rolls across the lawn were fraught with difficulty, and many a time the balls kept rolling off the boundary. Hoop approaches from one side were also likely to go astray. Nevertheless we enjoyed our trip to the seaside!
