Chris O’Byrne wins the Salver

By RPCC - 21st August 2018

For the first time since 2003, the Vulliamy Salver was lifted by somebody who isn’t Jamie Burch or Roger Tedstone!  With Roger reaching the final yet again, having beaten Chris in the block-stage of the level-play Advanced Association competition, the game was played out in front of about 10 club members.

With the weather over the past few weeks having quickly turned the lawn from bumpy glass to thick grass, Chris got to grips with the pace of the lawn first, quickly getting to 4 Back, and attempting a triple peel, but failing hoop 4 with only 1 peel done.  The game became a little scrappy, before Chris took advantage of a wiring lift Roger hadn’t noticed to finish from 2 Back and Rover, winning +20.
