The 2021 winners of the Doubles trophy did not get off to a good start at Southwick on Sunday, only Mike Barnard and Freda winning 1 of their 2 doubles, and Doug and Caroline losing both of theirs.
Manager Judy visited at lunchtime, which must have changed our luck.
We each played 3 singles in the afternoon, Mike won all 3 of his, Freda and Doug 2 each.
Caroline went out to play her 3rd game, having already won 1.5 games, not realising that we were neck and neck with Compton. After a chilly but sunny day, it suddenly started to pour with rain during her game, but she battled on and emerged triumphant with a 7-2 win.
John Low announced that Reigate and Compton had 9.5 wins each, so it was down to hoops won. Compton had 18 points… Reigate had 20!
Our own Martin Peacock, wearing his Supervising Referee’s hat, presented us with the trophy.
