Dawn to Dusk

As part of our Centenary celebrations, we have a number of events planned, beginning with our Dawn to Dusk Challenge.

The Game

The format will be level play Golf Croquet, played the conventional way with all the current rules. However, the game isn’t finished at “first to 7” etc., it will continue through to hoop 12, directly to hoop 1, around again and so on. The idea is to keep the balls rolling all day long without any restarts from corner 4.

If a comfort break is needed or a phone call is urgent your partner can play both balls until you return.

Change-overs

On the table below you can see each player’s changeover time in bold type.  There are about 25 changeovers due to happen during the day, so what could go wrong!

When your time to play arrives, walk onto the lawn and takeover play of the appropriate coloured
ball where it lies, so besides the time you are due to play it will be handy to know the ball colour you will be playing,
who you are taking over from and who is taking over from you.

If the change over player is delayed carry on if you can or ask your partner to play both balls

Scoring

Every time the game moves through hoop 12, the hoops run by each side is recorded and the score resets to 0-0.

There will be a score sheet on the table by the club house. The player that runs hoop 12 is responsible to record the score of that round.

A running total of each round’s scores will be kept to find out where we get to by sunset.

The weather

It is going to be cold! So wrap up warm and have a hot drink or soup before or after (or both) you play.

If the lawn is frosted first thing an alternative temporary lawn will be set out on the adjacent field.
