Technology in Croquet

While the fundamentals of croquet have existed for a long time now, many advances have been made in all areas, from the manufacturing of mallets, balls and hoops, to lawn maintenance, to online resources and more.

Recently, there have been massive advances released in the world of Artificial Intelligence, from systems that can write complete original essays for students, through to scarily realistic fake videos of anybody!

One aspect of this is generating images upon request. There are services where you can type in a description, and within seconds you’ll have some images showing your request (I used Dall-E). However, I think it’s safe to say that it’s not quite perfect yet…

When publishing a recent article on our Dawn to Dusk event, part of our Centenary Celebrations, I decided to give it a go, and asked for some pictures of “Croquet at Dawn”. The results were, um, interesting…

So in the end, I felt I should use a “real” picture, but at the rate these tools are improving, I don’t think it’ll be long before we will really be able to use them!

Of course, I couldn’t resist trying some less usual searches, so here we go…
