This year the Francis Payne Cup was run on a draw and process knockout basis, which resulted in the last three standing having to play at least one person twice over.
The final was played out between Michael (confusing name for the score sheet) Bye and Frank (I-don’t-do-jumps) Burch. A game of three halves.
The first was close, 7-6 to Bye, but nearly upset by Burch’s long range approach shot through the golden hoop backwards. The next two games, like the first, were dominated by long range hoop running, with one 7-5 win each, resulting in a hard fought win for Michael Bye.
A lasting memory of the match was the sight of Frank squaring up for a jump shot attempt…
