Reigate Ladies again won the golf croquet team’s shield, after an exciting day’s croquet, with the result being decided only in the very last minute of play.
Reigate and Guildford & Godalming were neck and neck right up until the final moment, both having won 6/6 matches against other clubs, but the overall winners were Reigate claiming their last game 7 -5 after Sally Mackinlay made the winning shot with one minute to spare, thus making Reigate’s score 15 winning games to Guildford’s 14.
The Ladies’ Teams Golf Croquet Day is now three years old, and has become a popular annual event encouraging female croquet players to have a go at competitive team events. Held at Southwick, the gentlemen of the club gamely lay on excellent refreshments and do all the washing up! Reigate have acquitted themselves extremely well, coming 2nd in the first year, and winning the Shield in 2018 and now again in 2019.
