For their first U-league match of the season, Team B started off rather well last Saturday at Purley Bury.
The doubles pairing of Neil Coote and Alan Slade romped to a win, +26 including a posthumous rover peel by Neil, a PB (personal best), for them. They were so quick, in fact, that two of the afternoon singles games were started and almost finished before lunchtime. However, on the other lawn, both Andy Gray and John Bristow were defeated.
The afternoon singles results were shared equally with both Neil and John B winning. Overall the result was a 4-3 win to Purley Bury.
So, as so often in croquet, things did not end up as they seemed at the beginning. Nevertheless it was, as always, very enjoyable to visit and play in very friendly company at PB.
