Sunday, May 13th will be this year’s National Croquet Day, and we will be holding our event on our lawn in Reigate. The idea is to raise the profile of croquet somewhat, so to that end we’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come and give it a go – for members, this means encouraging as many friends,… Read more →
Maintenance Morning
On Sunday morning, there was an impressive turnout of volunteers to help bring the lawn up to scratch for the start of the season. Coordinated by Mike Barnard, a whole host of tasks were dealt with, from cleaning the gutters, to weeding (which Di proved to be magnificent at!), to trimming the edges of the lawn. Through teamwork and good… Read more →
Grand Opening of the Vulliamy Terrace
Without Bunny Vulliamy, Reigate would not have a croquet club. Joining in 1969, he quickly became Secretary, and then Chairman, in the process rescuing the moribund club and setting it on its current highly-successful path. Bunny bequeathed a substantial donation to the club upon his passing, and this money has been put to good use creating a viewing platform at… Read more →
Joyce’s Legacy
Members of Joyce Hampton’s family joined us to present a memorial croquet mallet in her name, after her recent death. They also donated her very own mallet, to be known as Hampton’s Hammer. Mad dogs and Englishmen?
It wasn’t the midday sun so much as the freezing cold which greeted RPCC’s intrepid Christmas Cracker participants this weekend. Some dressed up in “novelty” Christmas dress, and others were more interested in the mulled wine, but either a way a good time was had by all. Prizes were awarded to Chairman John, and runner-up Sue, both of whom showed… Read more →
Lawn Winter Closure – 2018
To allow the lawn a Christmas Break to recuperate, we’ll be closing it during January & February. During this time, we’ll be looking to fix any issues, tidy up the divots, and reset the hoops, but one of the biggest reasons will be to prevent any further damage during the cold period, during which the lawn healing process takes far… Read more →
B-League Team Update
Everyone likes to think they know what the “B” stands for in the SECF association league of that name. I like to think that it stands for “best” as the matches are always great fun and everyone enjoys themselves whatever the result! This is just as well since, although in recent years Reigate Priory have performed relatively well, this year… Read more →
U-League Team Update
RPCC fields two teams in this AC handicap league, with Team B only playing at weekends, catering for members in full-time employment. Team A consisted of 7 players: John Knight, John Staddon, John Hyde, Simon Ling, Doug Dykes, Martin Peacock and Lucy Beach. They started by losing 2-5 at Medway, but then won 6-1 against Guildford and Godalming. A subsequent… Read more →
