Chris O’Byrne retains the Salver

By RPCC - 22nd August 2019

The final final of Finals Weekend was the culmination of our Level Advanced Association competition, the Vulliamy Salver.

Contested by the same 2 players as last year, the standard this year was notably improved by both Roger Tedstone and Chris O’Byrne, with both having won all their other block games, but with Roger having won the head-to-head at that stage.

With Roger hitting in 4th turn, but not getting a controlled break together and breaking down on hoop 2, Chris was first to 4 Back, followed quickly by Roger doing the same with his hoop 1 ball.  Roger retained control, but had rushed to hoop 1 before remembering he was on hoop 2, and a decent long roll wasn’t quite enough to get going.

After some interaction, Chris hit a 9 yarder and proceeded to complete a somewhat non-clinical triple peel to take the match.

A decent sized crowd turned out, possibly more for the delicacies laid on by Freda, as the weather brightened up for an enjoyable end to the long weekend of climaxes!
